Battling
Insomnia
Life is full
of situations that will trigger stress in us, that
battling insomnia is the last thing
anyone needs in life.
Occasionally we all lose some sleep during the night hours.
There are times when our minds refuse to shut down during these
sleeping hours. There are various reasons that sleep will not
come and few of them may link to excitement or
stress.
Other reasons such as drinking
coffee or other caffeine based substances at night can also
prevent sleep. Alcohol may appear to relax the mind, but it
does the opposite. At night alcohol should be avoided since
even if you do fall asleep you will lose REM sleep, which is
needed to feel relaxed.
If you have had an exciting
day or you are very pleased about something, you may
lose some sleep dwelling on the day or event that has
happened.
Various reasons can cause a
person to lose sleep, however if sleepless nights persist you
may need help, since acute insomnia can lead to chronic
insomnia and extend to death.
Yes, if a person continues to
lose sleep the body is affected immensely. People that suffer
insomnia on a chronic level may later in life endure heart
problems. Heart attacks, strokes, high-blood pressure, diabetes
and other major illnesses are common for those that suffer
ongoing insomnia throughout their lifetime.
If you are suffering ongoing
insomnia attacks, it is very important to seek medical
treatment immediately.
The doctor should do a series
of tests to weed out any medical ailments that may be
causing the insomnia. During the testing, if the doctor
finds any reason that may be causing the insomnia you will be
prescribed medications.
Make sure you follow the
doctor’s directions. The medications may cause a few side
affects, but the affects will not last long. The affects are
often short lived since the body must adjust to the
changes.
If you have a medical
condition that is, causing sleepless nights you may want to ask
your doctor about diet and exercise.
Studies have shown that those
that exercise regularly and eat the right foods often-live
longer and healthier lifestyles and rarely do they suffer from
insomnia. If you are instructed to exercise, make sure you do
the exercises during day hours and not before going to
bed.
Exercises will promote the
adrenaline and increase the body’s energy level. I recommend
exercising early in the morning, since it will help your body
get a great start on working properly during the
day.
Diet is great for nourishing
the body and mind, and promoting a healthier life span and
helping the mind find a source of relaxation. You will need to
include vegetables, right amount of Carbs, fruits and other
proper nutrition into your plan for a healthier
life.
If you drink, you may want
to cut down, and especially avoid drinking alcohol during
the night hours. Alcohol will enforce sleepless nights and even
if you are able to go to sleep at night, your will not receive
REM sleep.
All caffeine should be
avoided at least five hours before bedtime. Nicotine also
affects the body negatively, and avoiding nicotine before
bedtime is essential for a restful night.
If during the night you are
still finding it, hard to sleep you may want to listen to soft
music, which relaxes the mind. Some people find it easy to fall
a sleep while the television is playing.
Make sure you keep the sound
level low. You may want to read a good book also. Few people
read at night, which relaxes the mind or bores the mind and the
person is able to fall a sleep.
There are various steps to take
when a person is having difficulty falling a sleep. Again, if
you have ongoing sleep problems then you will need to visit
your doctor, since medical problems may exist.
Learning to exercise and diet
properly again, is essential so that the body and mind will
have the proper nutrition and energy level to survive. Fresh
air can also help the body and mind relax. If during the night
hours, you are having difficulty-resting sit on the porch and
allow the fresh air to graze your body, thus promoting peace
and relaxation.
