IS STRESS TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE?
My nerves are shot. I
can not take it anymore. What does everyone expect of me? Does
this sound familiar to you?
It might not be obvious to you
but stress is taking charge of your life when you or
someone you know is saying these words.
HOW CAN WE CONTROL
STRESS
Stop and think, turn it around
and say to your self, I will not allow stress to come into my life and control my
life. No one expects
you to do more than you can do. Are you
expecting more of yourself than anyone else is
expecting.
You need to relax
and calm down, take charge of your life again.
We are all born with the
survival skills, which include the ability to continue living
even when times are bad. We all know about the different
stress management techniques and how they can help us cope with
stress. We also know
about the stressor's and how to avoid them.
These stressor's include all
the common problems that life throws at us each and every day
of our life. How does one person handle stress better
then the other when dealing with stress.
When you feel stressed do you
sometimes head for the alcohol, telling yourself that
after all you have been through you deserve a good drink. Do
you take it out on your family or loved ones, maybe even when
you are at work. Do you turn to food.
What ever you turn to or how
ever you cope all you are doing is subduing the problem.
You are not facing what it is that is making you that
stressed.
If you turn to the
drink it doesn't mean you have an alcohol problem, yet.
What you do have is a failure in how you handle your
stress. Something is lacking so you need to review how you
deal with the problems you have.
Start by asking yourself what
that problem is.
How do we manage the stress we
have.
Being positive, think
positively. Take control of your life and the stress and
anxiety you have and learn effective techniques to handle
that stress.
Relax. Start by removing the tension in order to reduce
the physical sensations of stress. If you have
no tension your mind tends to be
more relaxed.
This in turn will help you
concentrate more, make better decisions, you
will solve problems better. When we are
relaxed, we can see each task as a challenge, and
not as a stressor.
You need to look after
yourself and be kinder to yourself. Have more me time, do
what you want to do, when you want to do
it.
Do nothing and relax and
do not feel guilty about doing that. Have a hot bath,
meet friends,
read a book, have a massage, do something just form
you.
Stand back and confront the
problem. Look at it in small manageable parts. Talk it
through with someone. Avoiding it will not make it go
away but it will make it worse.
How many people leave things
to the last minute, don't that's a major source of
stress.
Doing some sports or any type
of physical activity will help you to distress and relax.
Doing any sort of activity will make you have a sense of
well-being.
Talk, write, shout, or
paint about your stress. When you
express your feelings this can help to relieve the
stress.
Saying you have a problem
in the first place will help you to deal with
it.
